HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE

Education is the cream and culture of the human civilization. The village Jiral managed to make a place for itself in the map of Higher Education of Odisha by opening a College named Jiral College, Jiral in 1981 by the joint Endeavour of the people of Jiral in particular and the co-operation of the locality in general. Jiral is one of the largest village i the District of Dhenkanal located in between two river- the Brahmani and the Ramial 22 Kms. Towards South East from Kamakshyanagar and 35 Kms. Towards North  East from Dhenkanal. This Institution is a noble creation of the enlightened enterprise and one of the significant achievement of the people of Jiral and its locality.

Origin of Jiral College is out of popular will and local initiative which was organised under the leadership of the first secretary of the College, Advocate Khageswar Pati (M.A., LL.B) and the Youth mass. The year of 1981 immemorable in the history of Jiral College as a great gathering representing almost all the villages of locality resolved to built the Educational temple. Ultimately Jiral College was inaugurated  in the early morning of 27 August 1981 with traditional Puja, Mantra and kirtan in the Jiral High School Campus where the College was initially running.

The College got Govt. Concurrence and affiliation from Utkal University from the academy session 1981-82 in intermediate Arts Class having teaching facility in English, Oriya, Political Science, History, Economics and logic. In course of time the college shifted to its own building on dt. 9.9.85 The campus  is Ideally situated in a beautiful and natural landscape having an area of 15 acres of land, It is having a serene rural setting systematically adorned by different plant species. It seems as if an intelligent bride hidden behind the veil of leaves attracting the learners for getting in to light.

Now the College is affiliated to CHSE Orissa and Utkal University, providing teaching facility in Arts, Science , Commerce & vocational courses in Higher Secondary stage and Arts & Science in Degree stage. By the introduction of 10+2+3 pattern in Odisha the intermediate classes were converted in to +2 classes and the college got affiliation of CHSE Odisha from 1983. Degree teaching . Arts, was introduced in the College from 1985 and college was affiliated to Utkal University in Degree  stage from 1987-88. B.Sc. course was introduce in this college from 2009-10 with govt. Recognization and Utkal University affiliation. Honours teaching facility is now available is now available in the college in Political Science, History ,Philosophy, Odia, Sanskrit, Economics, Physic, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany and Zoology. Higher Secondary Science and Commerce classes were started from 1989-90 and 1993-94 respectively.It is a great pride fot the college to maintain all official works separately in its Administrative Block simultaneously having two separate Humanities and Science Block, Ladies Hostel have R.C.C roof of plinth area 25,53 Sq.ft. The office was shifted to its Administrative Building on dt.03.02.92 for smooth running of official work. The college has a modest arrangement of some services such as consumer’s Co-operative store, Youth Red Cross, NSS,Eco-Club, Equal Opportunity centre, Career counselling cell, Internal quality assurance cell, Extension Activities cell, Health centre, Sports and gym, Anti raging cell, Anti Sexual harassment cell, Red Ribbon Club and Women’s Development cell. Steps are being taken to introduce NCC in the college very shortly. The roll strength has risen from mere handful of 41 to more than 1200 (affiliated Strength- 1312). At present the college is affiliated to U.G.C. under 2f & 12B since 1992 and has been receiving U.G.C. financial assistance for construction of library Building, Women’s Hostel, purchase of other equipment, Books and Journals etc. From time to time.

It’s a accredited by NAAC in 2016-17 and placed at Rank of “B+”. Second cycle accreditation process is going on during the current session.The further prosperity of the institution depends purely on its stake holders and well-wishers. It is hoped that esteemed co-operation from all walks will lead the institution for a better tomorrow maintaining its serenity tranquillity and purity. It has made much head way over the year but a long way is yet to be covered to get the peak envisioned by the  great souls.
